I love the herringbone pattern...it looks rich. And customer let me have creative control. Sold job off Sunroom II so I pretty much had her at hello. For grout color, 2 oz palomino, 1/3 oz charcoal. US 3:1 desert beige and brick for the final colors to compliment the house and surrounding hardscape.I had only done this type of TD texture before on a sample board, but wanted to see how practical it was on a job. It was slow, took about 4 hours to trowel the patio out, but was worth it....

Pulling tape was easy. It is connected. Taping took a day by myself, 230 sqft, 10 rolls of 1/4". Lay all tape at a 45, 4" apart, then run tape perpendicular 4" apart. Herringbone is done by removing every third piece, then every third piece on the prependiclar runs. It's easy when you can see the pattern that way. I troweled instead of spraying because of the texture I wanted, and was able to do it in one coat and still use US. I have tried using US on a knockdown, but US will manage...

I'm trying to think out side of the box like you do and I'm guessing you start with full lines and then do other full lines perpendicular and cut out as you go. Then fill individual bricks. Otherwise not only would it take an incredible amount of time but I can't believe it could ever end up so perfect. A lot of fans on this one.

This pattern was taped with 1/4" fiber tape. Never had good results using stencils and trowel...even adhesive backed.

Tried something new on this job. For 230 sqft I did half the patio at a time. Dumped entire bucket of TF on 115 sqft and quickly pushed it around with concrete broom, using same color TF as grout. This is easy on the tape as a trowel can rip it up if you are not careful. Also, there was no material left in bucket to dispose of. I figure with this coverage you get...
