Great job and nice color!! How much color did adding the 1-2 oz of Choc to TP give you before stain?

the color in the tp made it the same shade of tan as the painted columns and door frame, maybe a touch lighter.
thanks for the nice words, the guys that actually do the work will appreciate it. the jobs I post are installed by various michigan contractors. ecom installs material on sample boards once a month. one in a while I'll spray some acid stain or get a little dirty if it's a commercial job with my name on the contract, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of time to spend in the mud doing the fun stuff anymore. I'm actually quite delinquent in posting recent jobs from matrixtech (21,000 sqft carved stone TSO...yeah 21,0000), decrete, phattmatt, and musto that I have pictures for - I'll get them posted this week. kkal is delinquent in posting his recent pics. Come on Kurt, I know your not hacking up everything you've been doing...post em. |

Another nice job! My question is: when you say that you spray the 1st coat white Ultrastone... you mean you use the Ultrastone with no color? Just right out of the gallon jug? What does this do to color the TP? Thanks and good job!

added white synthetic | #5 | ||
|
He colored the NB w/ Elite Crete Synthetic Primary Pigment - white, diluted 10:1. Any white water-base tint would work also; non colored NB does pretty much the same thing.
We've used diluted NB w/o color plenty of times as the first coat of stain an a surface that we want to keep light toned. A thin layer of clear/white USNB prevents subsequent coats of colored stain from taking real dark. |

nb is ultrastone neutral base. have you asked your distributor about the synthetic colors? they're brand spanking new.

Edges are really clean! Any tips on that? Pretty much all of my jobs are going to be similar to that one. The facing or risers of the steps are finished in what?
I've completed two jobs so far. I was happy with the edges on the first job as well as the colours but the second job i'm not fussy on the colour, but hey I'm not signing the check huh? I will post pics shortly, after I finish the third job. - Jamie |

On the edges, place & stamp the TP so you have just a bit extra hanging off the edge - you'll hone it down on a 45 with a rub brick the next day so the base of the TP is flush along the corner and you have a 45 deg edge.
Verticals are colored thin finish applied with paint brush. Do this after you've stained the top, as you'll get drip marks down the side. Make sure you mist the face w/ water, per normal procedure. Usually two coats are necessary, but can be done almost consecutively. Typically "paint" the face immediatley before sealing. Faces dry fast. |
