The H/O said I want something different when I went to bid the job. It is a large room, framing was up & roof on so we had to do a border. We took graph paper and played with the Grid idea & settled on a 5 x 5 grid at 39 so the middle run was centered on the room N/S & E/W. The 6 border was enough to stand out & not compete with the Tiles. We also had to make sure the pattern wouldnt be in the way of the Built-Ins.

We found the straightest of the 3 walls, snapped lines (White chalk) and re-checked out measurements before cutting. After all the cutting, the pattern is within 1/8 inch of squarenot bad & no one would be able to tell. The area under the built-Ins is where the stain test samples were done.

Colors are Gold, Black & Brown. 1st Gold @ 10:1 ( Kicked up the stain with Muratic acid as 10% of water volume & added Blue stain as 20% of Gold volume to reduce the rusty/orange tones & have a more even golden color). **The area under the build-ins has about 16 sample stain areas..have to do a lot of testing before the actual stain). 2nd Color Black @ 12:1 I used a small hand-held RL Flomaster 40 OZ sprayer for a more feathered mist of black. The hand held has an atomizer quality the larger sprayers dont. Spot spray light/heavy as you want for marbeling. Border is Brown @ 6:1 and 6 inset tile is Black 6:1.these were done by hand with a Foam Brush.

The patio outside continued the theme but we changed the pattern a bit so it wouldnt be too busy. Not a bad color match considering the patio was broom finished.
