My first project on this slab (my carport) was so bad that I ground it off and started over. Its a splatter / knockdown sprayed down over a white basecoat with a taped off stone pattern. A million thanks to my instructor / distributor Ken George who patiently answered hundreds of beginner type questions.

looks good for a splatter, but you would like that design a lot better with a texture trowel finish.

one suggestion tho,
on a taped pattern job, try two skim coats, with only one the cement bleeds thru in grout where tape pulled a lil TF ? nice work, i like the US on spray , helps not soak so much CSS Glam's |

Thanks for the compliments, tips and advice.
As for a "texture trowel" finish rather than spray, I've done a few troweled sample boards but wasn't real happy with the texture I ended up with. Any advice on getting an attractive trowel finish would be appreciated. For coloring, the splatter had 1 oz chocolate per bag. I intended to hand color a few stones, antique the whole thing then seal it. Once I got started I ended up hand coloring about 75% of the stones with varying shades of chocolate, palmetto, and charcoal. The bricks were also hand colored simply because the bricks I've sprayed with integral red did not look as good to me as the hand colored red bricks. It was antiqued with 5:1 charcoal and sealed with 2 coats of 2:1 CSS. Rob |

Rob, what did you use when hand coloring, such as a sponge or what? also how did you keep your grout lines so clean? Chris

Chris, for hand coloring I used one of those inexpensive foam brushes. As for keeping grout lines clean, if you look closely at the posted pics you can see several goof ups where the stain ran into the grout line. I kept a rag handy to blot with. That worked well enough so that what was left could be disguised by the antiquing.
