Yes spray the surface with water first it will soften the harshness of a dry stain job, Make sure you hit all the areas, it looks like under the toe kick is still white. Water will help, if the floor is wet the stain will soak in all over with just a little bit of stain.

Sweet, thanks for the tip guys, I will try that next time. that's what I wasn't too pleased with is how the stain didn't disperse well. The stain is actually Iron Oxide. A liquid plant fertilizer. A fellow EC'er in the area told me about it. Mixed 10 to 1. Works excellent and only $5 bottle instead of $50.

How about brushing the stain in with a soft bristle broom in a circular motion? Do you guys do it that way?

Concrete Innovations I hope your not saying you applied just paint pigment, water, & some sort of fertilizer on a floor for the coloring.
If so your in trouble, that has a good chance of failing, first paint pigment never fully dries, as soon as it comes in contact with moister it goes back to it's slimy ol self ( causing your sealer to fail. fertilizer ( nitrate) is sometimes used with acid stain for different effects ( 1 causing a poisonious gas) but it's not the reaction with the concrete it's a reaction with the mineral salts in the acid stain, so what was the point in the fertilizer? Muriatic acid & pigment will again not work there is no pigment in acid stain they use mineral salts. pigments should be added to waterbase stains for color, 1 of the things wb stain does is keep the pigment from rewetting. My best advice for newbee's is spend much more time on making money than trying to save money, if the job fails will more than $50.00 be spent on repairing it? Tom |

Chem-stone diluted at 10:1 comes out to $4.59 per gallon. You probably spent more than that at the coffee shop that morning.

Tom,
I never realized what the negative effects of using the product could incure. I fellow contractor in the area recommended it to me and uses it regularly with no problems. I used the same product. I mixed the liquid iron acid "fertilizer" with water and sprayed the surface just as if it would have been chemstone. I did not ad a paint pigment to the acid or layer of micro. White micro 2 coats, sprayed stain 10 to 1, let set whiped away residue and sealed. Went on green, turned out brown. You are right, if it fails it will def cost more than $50 to fix if it fails. I will contact my friend, the other installer, and see if he is seeing any negative effects. Thanks for the input though. Definately food for thought. Live and learn I suppose, it's ashamed I had to make an error already though. |

My suggestion would be especially for new guys follow the rules they're there for a reason. In this biz material cost is minimal compared to profits & will keep you outa trouble. Life's a bi!ch when job's go wrong so the key is keep'm to a minimum.
