Process? | #1 | ||

Nice looking floor! Is pt-1 over concrete or new overlay? Can you detail your steps? Thanks.

Its over concrete. Its a very simple system. We basically prepped the concrete (shotblasted) filled joints with epo-rock, put down a primer coat, then squeegeed out 20 mills of PT-1 tinted grey. Immediately broad-casted to rejection 1/4" blended vinyl chips. There are actually 5 colors all blended together. Next day came in and blew off and vacumed excess chips then squeegeed on clear PT-1 top-coat (some people call it a grout coat) with notched squeegee. Applied 2 coats of I-shine floor wax. 3 days total.

Do you have to worry about joints?
What is epo-rock? How much did you charge? Have you used this on carports or garages? Thanks. |

Epo-Rock is a specially formulated aggregate with iron additives for epoxy mortar. We mostly use it for our trawl-able 1/4" Epoxy flooring systems. about 3 years ago we started using it to fill cracks we had chased. As far as filling control joints, yes this is not normally recommended. We ALWAYS tell the customer that we can fill them for a cost(we charge 9$ a lineal foot) so they have a monolithic floor, but there is a chance they may telegraph through. 99% of the interior joints we fill never re-crack. Eporock finishes out at 17,500 psi. My experience with interior floors is after the first 30 days after the pour there is little movement. As far as carports or garages, yes we have done several garages and never had an issue. pt-1 will yellow or chalk some, there is quite a bit of yellow and beige chips in this system so hopefully it won't be much of a concern, this is my first chip floor with pt-1, normally I use a different product that chalks very little. After hearing my distributor spout off about pt-1 I decided to give it a try. So only time will tell. I refuse to work with polyurea, if you don't know why, buy some and lay it out over a 1,000 square feet and let me know how it went. As far as pricing we start at 5.50 a foot for larger areas and go up from there. Hopefully this helps.

I wasn't implying it is an inferior product, its very durable. Just not the easiest product to work with.

first sanded epoxy coat for bondage , squeegeed on polyurea and back rolled with 18 inch roller , polyerea is easier i think than the epoxy , this went on a paint chip floor , tom m

Re: polyurea | #17 | ||

1 gal/sq.ft. of 100% solids material would give you 1600 mils thickness or about an inch and a half!
that's some protection for your floor. but you'd have to spray it and have a 3-4 second pot life so you could build it up without losing the depth. just think, a 200 sq.ft. floor would run you about $20,000 just for the polyurea! and then you probably couldn't even see through it to the decorative surface below. |
