I was working with acetone based dyes in a basement 3 years ago. Basement had 2 rooms. I had a big fan pulling air out through main room, second room had minimal ventialtion. There was a boiler in a third room but all seams were tapped as a preventative measure.

I had to close door for just long enough to spray dyes behind door. About 10-30 seconds I would guess. As soon as I closed door the entire room flashed. To this day I can still envision the experience. It seemed like it happened in slow motion. I could see the entire room filing with a ball of primarily blue flames.

The flames came through the room and entirely around me. Somehow I got out. I think as soon as i opened the door the flames went out but I didn't stop running until I was outside.

First I was blessed that nothing happened to me. Second all the plastic on the walls completely melted and the walls were slightly charred.

Solvents are more combustible than you can imagine. If you haven't had this experience first hand than you really don't know other than what you hear.

To prevent this in the future either don't touch them or proceed with extreme caution. There are plenty of great performing products available that eliminate the need for using solvent based products.
