Posts: 10 10/05/09 06:44 PM	Tags : None Hello All! As you may know we are in the concrete countertop business but have decided to take on decorative concrete flooring. It is a natural addition to our business. We have been asked to price out concrete counters and flooring for the lobby of a prominent business in the area. It is new construction but the floor apparently suffered some spalling. We are completely new to this but I suppose we need to start somewhere. We will be working with an experienced flooring and concrete finisher so that will be a huge help. The customer would like their logo on the floor - I have seem many pics on the Elite Crete site but wonder how it is done.Any advice for newbies? How is the reflector system?

Posts: 294 10/06/09 06:43 AM	Ok, if no one else wants to chime in, I'll give it a go. #1 what type of floor are you proposing? Reflector, Trowel down, etc...? When you say spalling, do you mean that the top of the concrete is flaking and coming apart or are you calling spalling chips in the concrete from work being done on the space? We've done logo's / graphics in floors a few times. We've inlaid logo's into trowel textures, and we've encapsulated graphics in epoxy. Both are very nice, but need to know which one you are looking at doing. Have you discussed this project with your distributor? He is the one who will walk you through it once you get going on it. Sorry I couldn't answer your questions without asking more, but it was a pretty broad post and in order to go into detail, we need more info. Bruce

I think we are best off with epoxy and reflector. 350 square feet. The concrete is about 10 months old. It was poured in the winter and it spalled in the spring. There are spots that are about 1'' to 2'' deep. The concrete is pretty rough. This is a fit up for a large company in the area. It is the main lobby so we want this to look good. We are also bidding on the concrete counters for the front desk. Can we get the reflector to be a fairly "concrety" looking? What should we use to fill in the rough spots? We've done logo's / graphics in floors a few times. Posts: 2380 10/07/09 06:02 PM Moderaor in training	You need to be careful on that surface if it froze. You don't really know the depth of freeze and the whole slab could be suspect. A scarifier might be needed to take off the "soft" surface. When concrete enters a frozen state, the water forms crystals and does not allow the chemical reaction of bonding of the cement. You wind up with a sub par compressive strength, even to the point you could dig a hole in it with a pick. If only surface freeze then you can remove the soft stuff and rebuild from there. If temps rose and allowed the remaining concrete to do its thing then an overlay would be OK. Often, wind chill will cause a surface freeze and destroy a surface. You could carve it with a nail. Just a little tid bit to think about. gene ec-Indy
